Embrace the Sun Safely: Our Guide to building healthy habits.

As ocean lovers, we love spending our days at the beach and as much time as possible in the water catching waves. Having a sun-safe routine is essential for us; it allows us to fully enjoy our time outdoors without compromising our skin’s health. With a few simple habits, we’re able to relax and enjoy the beach and ocean, knowing we’re staying protected.
So, Here’s our go-to sun safety routine, designed to keep our skin healthy and our minds at ease, so we can keep doing what we love under the sun! 
The Morning Ritual: Prepare Before You Step Outside
Starting our day with sun protection is super important to us as it sets us up for the day ahead and creates healthy habits. This includes applying SPF 30+ (minimum) sunscreen to all exposed skin areas before we head out, even if it’s cloudy. We Look for broad-spectrum options that protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
Our favourite brands include Feel Good Zinc, Avocado Zinc and Little Urchin for your mini's.
Ps. Don’t forget the often-overlooked spots: ears, the back of your neck, hands, and the tops of your feet. These areas are often forgotten but need protection, too.

Create a Sun-Safe Checklist
Summer outings call for a few essentials. We pack these items in our bag to make sure we are covered wherever we go:
1. Sunscreen and Zinc for reapplication (especially after any outdoor activity re. surfing, swimming, hiking or any other activity that makes you sweat).
2. Lip balm with SPF to protect our lips, which are often vulnerable to sunburn. One of our favs is the Avocado Zinc SPF 50 Lip and Cheek Tint.
3. A reusable water bottle – staying hydrated is part of good sun safety since it helps our body handle heat better.
4. Our hats and Sunnies!
Timing is Everything: Plan Around Peak UV Hours
The sun is strongest between 10 am and 4 pm. While it’s not always possible to avoid these hours, we try to minimize exposure by Seeking shade whenever possible during peak hours, wearing our hat or by bringing our own sun umbrella.
We love planning activities for early morning or late afternoon when UV levels are lower...and there’s nothing better than a sunrise or sunset session with glassy conditions!
Don’t Forget to Reapply and Refresh
One application of sunscreen isn’t really enough for a day in the sun. We make reapplication part of our sun-safe routine:
We try to remember to reapply every few hours especially before or after any adventures and activities. 
When surfing, we also add a layer of Zinc before we hit the waves to ensure our skin is completely protected! Our favourite brands include Avasol SPF 50+ Zinc Sticks and Sunbutter Zinc.
After-Sun Care: Repair and Rehydrate
Our sun protection doesn’t end once we are indoors. Taking care of our skin afterward is just as important:
We both cleanse and moisturise at the end of the day to remove any sunscreen residue and restore hydration to sun-exposed skin.
We always apply an aloe-based lotion or cooling gel and hydtating oils to soothe any areas that feel a little sun-kissed.
We make sure we stay hydrated by drinking heaps of good water and eating foods rich in antioxidants, like berries and leafy greens, to support our skin’s natural repair process.
